PAINTING / WORKS ON PAPER
Where pigment, water and textile meet through
process, movement and chance.
Working primarily with watercolor and fluid media, I allow each piece to develop through a balance of intention and chance. Pigment moves, settles and reacts with the surface, creating forms that are discovered rather than planned.
Textile plays an essential role in this process. Introduced into the painted surface, it adds a physical and tactile dimension to the work, extending color and gesture beyond the flatness of the image. Softness, density and texture become part of the composition, creating a dialogue between the fluidity of pigment and the material presence of fiber.
I am interested in the tension between these different elements: between control and accident, fluidity and structure, surface and volume. Rather than following a predetermined image, each work evolves through the interaction of material, movement and time.
